Velvet Groove Underground was founded by two longtime friends, Debbie and Dana, who share a deep love for music, dancing, and building community. Their journey together began years ago when their children participated in the same ArtsCenter programs. Though life took them in different directions, they reconnected through Special Olympics, where both have been dedicated coaches for many years. The Special Olympics community has become their extended family, and their passion for connection and joy has only grown stronger.

As music and dance enthusiasts, Debbie and Dana believe there’s nothing quite like the freedom and exhilaration of letting loose on the dance floor. When Debbie discovered similar dance events happening in other parts of the country, she immediately shared the idea with Dana. Without hesitation, Dana responded, "Let’s do it!" A few months later, Velvet Groove Underground was born.

Velvet Groove Underground is more than just a night out—it’s a space for women to celebrate, unwind, and reconnect with themselves and each other. Designed as an alternative to the typical crowded club scene, our events create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere where every woman can feel empowered and free to dance without inhibitions.

Debbie and Dana are thrilled to welcome new friends who share their passion and can’t wait to see where this adventure takes them. With plans to expand across the Triangle and beyond, they are on a mission to bring the joy of movement and music to women across North Carolina.

See you on the dance floor!
